Second in 1978, Jacky Ickx approached the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans with the firm intention of going for a fifth victory. Early leader after an hour of racing on Saturday, the Porsche n°12 suffered a left rear puncture shortly before the 3 o'clock mark and was then taken out of the race on Sunday following too many belt changes.
